both legs amputated was created by miamibremen
Two nights ago I had a dream that my fiancé's legs had been amputated! It was very disturbing, to say the least.
In this dream I meet up with him after his doctor's appointment. He only had a torso and arms left, with him "standing" using his hands. He was behaving as usual, as if nothing had happened. I was mortified and asked him why his legs were gone and he answered nonchalantly that the doctor said that was the only thing left to fix his knee. I asked him why he didn't call me first because them maybe we could have saved his legs. I don't remember his answer. In this dream, I had overwhelming feelings of "it's too late, it's to late!" as well as utter sadness. It all felt very real.
Some background:
My fiancé and I have a 6 month old baby and we are getting married in two months. My fiancé also just had arthroscopic surgery in his left knee two months ago, and still has some problems with it. As a new mother who doesn't work outside the house, sometimes I feel like I have all of the work with the baby especially since he works very long hours. He does help as much as he can with childcare and is an excellent father and partner. I do end up making most of the household decisions, though.
Any ideas?

In your dream, your fiance represents a particualr part of your action or behavior. Legs signify purpose. Missing legs means a lack of purpose. Since they were amputated, the dream is showing that the purpose for something you have been doing has been taken away. The doctor says it was the last thing to fix his knee. The knee symbolizes flexibility. This part of the dream shows that you were on a path that, for what ever reason, you couldn't turn away from. This doesn't mean that it was necessarily a bad or evil thing, but one that may have prevented you from something better.
The doctor represents God. I don't know your religious background, but that's o.k. God is Healer. This dream is a nightmare for you because you refuse to see the reason behind what's going on. Look over your life and see where you have suddenly found yourself feeling as though you had no purpose. Know that is for a better reason that your activities or actions have changed. Realize that sometimes as we go through life, one door must close so that others may open. Things you used to do will give way to new things, often better things. Once you start to sort through things and try to put them in proper order, you will have follow up dreams to let you know if you are on the right track. I hope this helps. God bless.

Here are links to the definitions of your dream symbols, which should help explain your dream and why you had it...
missing legs
doctor
Based the waking life context which generated your dream and those definitions, your dream seems to reflect your concern that your husband is lacking support (no legs) he deserves in his waking life... perhaps as it relates to his health issues or perhaps as it relates to his financial responsibilities due to the fact that he is the sole bread-winner.
You so want to help him in your dream, but he willing to "sacrifice his limbs" without complaint to make it all "better." The doctor reference is appropriate because he has assumed "authority" for taking care of matters. His self-sacrificial decision to do without your involvement makes you concerned and sad in the dream. The Dream Doctor often used to make the point on his radio show that "feelings in dreams are never disguised." That is how you are feeling about the subject of your dream in waking life. Given that you are about to get married, those feelings are not only understandable, but worth sharing with your fiance.
As the dreamer, only you can validate the meaning of your dream. I hope that my input will contribute to your better understanding of it.
Congratulations on the birth of your child and your upcoming nuptials!

Thanks so much for your responses! It makes sense. My first response after waking up was extreme relief that it was only a dream. Now I have some sense of the meaning.
Thanks again!
