  • Hi everyone!

Recently I have had a string of very unusual nightmares and I was curious if anyone else had experienced something similar.

Basically what happens is that the nightmare ends right before the ‘scary stuff’ actually happens. It is a tad hard to explain so I will provide with an example:

I am inside of a large shopping-centre or grocery and some kind of music is playing over the loudspeakers, I am about to head towards the checkout when the world suddenly starts to twist in ways that I don’t remember but I remember feeling incredibly frightened and helpless. I remember frantically wandering around asking anyone for help, somehow convinced that I have been drugged (don’t ask me how I came to that conclusion) and just as I reach someone I might have recognized, the music suddenly goes quiet and everything just stops. I remember a dog nearby whose wagging tail suddenly freezes in mid-swing. I remember feeling uncomfortable beyond comprehension and just as the person is about to turn around and I feel like ‘here it comes’, I suddenly wake up.

I have had plenty of nightmares throughout my life (some of which tends to fuel my horror-writing), some more vivid than others, but this just straight up bizarre.

Another type of strange ‘nightmares’ that I have had recently is when I am in a scenario that you could easily identify as nightmarish (working on some kind of scientific experiment in a school and watching my hands transform after being instructed to lower them in the concoction in front of me or coming up from a beach towards my tent and discovering my feet infested with small larvae) but I don’t recall experiencing fear. I actually remember feeling a strange sense of fascination in the former case and mild annoyance in the other.
    Is that normal?
