  • In my waking life, I'm under a little stress from the show I'm performing in, and also I have a very strained relationship with a friend who's become a little jealous of me, but all in all, my life is really at a high, better than it's ever been. I'm very happy and usually stress-free, and it's easy for me to control my feelings about the strained friendship because its not too big of a deal. That's what confused me about this dream. It's just SO disturbing at such a wonderful time in my life. In my dream, we were at war. A horrible war. Imagine Vietnam mixed with World War trench warfare. I didn't recognize anyone else in the dream, and don't remember any faces really. I think that I also wasn't myself really. I'm a female, but I think that in the dream I was male. I referred to the man in charge as Sarge, and I had a best friend in our group of soldiers. I don't remember his name or face, but I remember that he was scared, and shook like a leaf when he was holding his gun. So, Sarge informed us that we had to hike through this swamp-stream type area and back, so we headed out. We were barely into the muddy, murky water, when I put my boot down and something splashed up on me. I looked down, and I had put my foot through the chest of a decaying human corpse. I looked around me, and there was just carnage everywhere. Bodies in the trees, bodies in the water, bodies in the mud. It stank and the people had been massacred in horrific ways. They were everywhere. We couldn't help but step on them a lot of the time. We were often up to our thighs in the muddy water. My friend kept shaking and crying, he couldn't handle it, but I urged him to stay strong, tried to take care of him. There were thin white strings, almost like wires, stretched between trees, from the trees to the ground, with dead bodies caught up in them as well, and at one point I got trapped in one very briefly, but I pulled myself free. We got to the end of the stream and camped out for the night, This is whee is gets bizarre. Dream-me had a dream. It was only flashes, small snippets of all the carnage I'd witnessed that day, with one horrible bit at the end. I saw a man pushing himself through the white wires in the swamp, struggling to get free, and the sharp, small wires were killing him, slicing into his throat, pulling his skin off of his skull. His eyes were wild and panicked and staring right at me as he pushed himself through the wire, forcing his body through it as it killed him, and he was screaming bloody murder. I only saw the flash for just a second, and then Dream-me woke up back in the swamp. Sarge informed us that we were hiking back through the swamp. We all begged him to find a way around; we couldn't go through that again. But he told us there was no way around, the only clear path was back up the stream. So we hiked back up. Very near the end, the enemy started to shoot at us, and we had to run. I remember someone in front of me calling out that he had seen a man caught in the wire, and then my friend calling out to me. I turned and saw that it was him caught in the wire. He was trapped, just like the man in the dream-within-the-dream, and he panicked, and even though I tried to calm him down and keep him still so I could help him out, he thrashed and tried to push himself out, force himself through the wires, his eyes bulging, screaming bloody murder, as the wires sliced into his throat and pulled the skin off his bones. It was horrible. He was just staring at me and screaming and killing himself on this wire, and I was just staring at him and screaming like it was happening to me, too, and then I turned around and ran. That was when I woke up.

  • War is a common dream symbol. Here's a link to its definition on this website:

    war: dreamdoctor.com/index.php?option=com_dre...task=details&id=1979

If you are having trouble pinpointing the waking life situation that feels "war-like" in your dream, there are a number of other clues in your dreams.

    dead body: dreamdoctor.com/index.php?option=com_dre...&task=details&id=580

    military: dreamdoctor.com/index.php?option=com_dre...task=details&id=1247

    muddy/cloudy water: dreamdoctor.com/index.php?option=com_dre...task=details&id=1991

    trapped: dreamdoctor.com/index.php?option=com_dre...task=details&id=1909

    can't get away: dreamdoctor.com/index.php?option=com_dre...&task=details&id=307

    shot at: dreamdoctor.com/index.php?option=com_dre...task=details&id=1684

    throat: dreamdoctor.com/index.php?option=com_dre...task=details&id=2161

    running away: dreamdoctor.com/index.php?option=com_dre...task=details&id=1601

Feelings are never disguised in dreams, so how you feel IN the dream is how you feel about the subject of your dream in your waking life. Based on the meaning of the symbols, try to ID who and what situation aligns with your feelings in the dreams. It might relate to the show you are performing in, but without knowing the specifics, it's hard to confirm that. If you could share more specifics, it would help.

Hopefully, you have enough information now to connect the dots.

Thanks so much! This was very helpful. After reading through a lot of this, I really think that this dream could mostly be about a relationship with my friend. I think he's the friend in the dream who dies in the wires. I'm trying to keep him near and safe in my waking life, trying to protect our friendship, but his jealousy and fear of the future are making me angry at him. I don't want to be angry at him because I love him, so I think that may be the reason that dream-me felt protective over my friend. The swamp and dead bodies seem to represent the show I'm in, and all the people I'll lose contact with when the show ends, maybe. The swamp, like the show, is the stresser that starts pushing my friend and I apart. Finally, he gets himself caught up in the wires, just like my friend in my waking life gets caught up in his jealousy and anger, and tries to force his way out, but only ends up essentially being "dead to me." In the end, I turned away and left him there, which is exactly what I made myself do in my waking life - simply walk away.

I really appreciate you help! Thank you so much!
