This is a recurring (slightly different but in the same place) dream. I'm in this hotel, it's a nice one with many stories. Someone (don't even know who) is chasing me through the whole dream. I'm taking the stairs, elevator, sneaking into peoples rooms with some of them still in their room sleeping, hiding. In all of my dreams in this hotel, I have an elevator incident. One dream I got on the elevator it went down so fast I remember feeling the butterflies in my stomach as if I was going down on a roller coaster. Another was whatever floor button I pushed it would go the opposite direction or even on the same floor as the person trying to find me. The one I had last night, I was on the top floor and it just dropped (like the cables broke) but it landed on the lobby floor, right when I got off the elevator, it dropped and crashed in the basement. With my heart beating out of my chest I realized I could run for the door and break free, by the time I got outside I saw my 6 year old son in the hotel crying for me and I had to go back in. (didn't know he was with me but something keeps pulling me back in this hotel. Really strange.) It goes on and on.

I do realize that the dream has something to do with a feeling of not being in control but hope someone could elaborate?

Would you please provide some information about what was going on in your waking life the first time you had the dream and the day before you had the dream. Based on the symbols in your dream, information/background about your career (elevator), important relationships at work and romantically (hotel), and what you consider to have been or is a burning issue (fire) in your waking life. With that information, I can be specific about what generated your dream and how you really feel about it.

    Thanks in advance.

I started having this reoccurring dream about a year ago and continue to have it. I had just found out that my husband was cheating on me and has been for 10 months before I found out. He is the father of my now 6 year old son who lives with me. Now my ex is an every other weekend Dad who now lives with his mistress and sometimes even brings her to drop off my son, that might be my fire since I can feel at that time my blood boil. I love my career and feel very secure with my job as an accountant that I've had for 7 years.

    Thanks for your time!!

Thank you for providing information about your waking life. It helps bring your dream into focus. In order to understand its meaning, here are links to the definitions of symbols in your dream on this website:

Your dream paints a powerful symbolic picture of your feelings about your waking life. Feelings IN dreams are never disguised so how you feel IN your dream is how you really feel about its subject in your waking life. This dream is full of intense feelings ranging from being out of control (emotionally) to fear, concern, disorientation and urgency. The dream is all about your personal life... your marriage/divorce, your struggles with your ex, his betrayal and his new life, and your son.

There are several messages in your dream. First, you want to get out of the "hotel of impermanent relationships" represented by your former and present romantic life. Hotels are also a symbol that reflects uncertainty about the future. The fact that you are drawn back inside may reflect your concern about moving on and finding someone new. You also clearly want more stability in your life, as opposed to the emotional roller coaster ride you have been on... one in which the floor drops out from beneath you (symbolically). Your dream also reflects your feelings of being "chased by" and wanting to escape from the pain that was inflicted on you and your son by your husband's betrayal, the divorce and his lifestyle choices. While others (in your life) are oblivious of your plight (they sleep through it), your dream has you running from and hiding, probably from those scary emotional realities.

Your dream exposes some very scary emotions. The fact that your dream has been recurring, is evidence that they are still very much alive inside you. Until you confront those emotions and takes steps to address the issues that are bothering you, your dream is likely to continue. You might consider enlisting the help of a professional therapist to guide you through the process of confronting and reconciling your feelings. Once you do that, you will be able to identify the best steps to take to make your life (and that of your son) better. At that point, this dream will go away.

    Good luck!
