  • Okay, so my Aunt (who I was very close with) passed away July 2nd of this year (2012). I got the phone call that I needed to come home because the Dr. said she would not make it through the night. So I got on the next flight. While at the airport waiting to board my cousin called me and informed me my Aunt had passed. After my 1 hour flight and a 45 minute drive I finally made it to her bedside and said goodbye.

People have been telling me that eventually she will visit me in a dream. Well I finally somewhat experienced that last night. I was sitting in a room kneeled down on the floor holding my aunt and she died in my arms. I started crying and then I began to sing to her while rocking her back and forth then I woke up.

It was a really strange dream and I am slightly bothered by it. I want to know if it means anything or if I should just try to forget about it.

  • First, my deepest condolences on your loss.

Dreams of the deceased are extremely common. They are not visitations from the other side, but expressions of your feelings about the deceased, often revealing where you are emotionally in the grieving process, especially if the passing is recent. The 5 stages of grief are... denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.

For more about this symbol, here's a link to the definition on this website: dreamdoctor.com/dream-dictionary/definitions/deceased.html.

Feelings in dreams are never disguised, so how you felt IN the dream is how you feel about its subject in your waking life. Your dream is quite tender, loving and beautiful. It expresses your acceptance of her death, your sadness, and love for her.

It is not uncommon to have more than one dream about a deceased loved one. Each will help inform you about how you are processing those feelings.

    Thanks for sharing your dream.
