Can somebody help me interpret this dream? was created by Chocodisiac
First and foremost,
I'm going to introduce myself...I am Diana, 27-year-old woman from San Diego, CA. I just had a dream that left me feeling kind of scared and I would like to see if somebody could help me interpret it...
I dreamt that somehow, we ended up installing this ginormous fish tank in a place of a wall in my my husband and I's bedroom. The fish tank was the entire size of the wall. A pretty large wall at that. We had one sole fish in it...a black-with-gray, huge, shark-like (but not quite a shark) fish that I found to be really scary and disconcerting.
The more disconcerting part of it was that the fish seemed really huge and threatening, and it literally just kept going ROUND and ROUND and ROUND and ROUND in circles all day and all night. At times it would stop and just sort of try to break free from the glass with its head.
I would try to sleep at night (within my dream), but I could not seeing as there was a huge tank with a huge fish that WANTED OUT. I felt like the tank might burst or that the fish might escape and the thought just made me feel really uneasy.
I wanted to get rid of the tank but in my dream I knew that we had gone through so much trouble getting it installed and purchasing the huge fish, that I did not dare say a thing...even though I felt complete uncomfortable with it. The tank seemed to have this curtain-like thing where we could cover up the tank whenever we didn't feel like seeing it. I used it and I felt A LITTLE bit better, but it was still disconcerting knowing that the huge fish was there...
In my dream, after getting ready and leaving that bedroom, my family and I went to a Disneyland-like place, but I just couldn't relax and have fun because I was really concerned that the fish would break free and/or the tank would break and we would come home to a wet, flooded house with a huge fish flopping around.
It's a really silly and bizarre dream, but it left me feeling very disconcerted. I find that water dreams can be kind of scary.
Any help trying to interpret this dream would be appreciated!
Thanks much!
Diana.

Based on the symbols in your dreams, it seems that having a baby is very much on your mind... and not in an easy-going way. Here are links to the definitions of the symbols in your dream:
fish: dreamdoctor.com/dream-dictionary/definitions/fish.html
aquarium: dreamdoctor.com/dream-dictionary/definitions/aquarium.html
Are you pregnant or thinking about it? If so, it's not surprising that the fish tank would be in your bedroom with thoughts of a fish going "round and round and round and round in circles all day and all night." The fish (the baby or thoughts of having one) is trying to break free from your aquarium (uterus) and into your house (a symbol of the self) is a metaphor for how you feel that "it" will happen... that it will be messy, will flop around and you won't know what to do with it. Feelings in dreams are never disguised so how you feel IN the dream is how you feel about its subject in your waking life. The fish and it's desire to "get out of the tank" is causing you anxiety, a normal feeling for a first time mom. What a great symbolic expression of what it feels like to have a baby for the first time?
You can't get away from the thought of the fish (baby), even at Disneyland. Amusement parks are alos common dream symbols: dreamdoctor.com/dream-dictionary/definit.../amusement-park.html In other words, even when you try to have fun and escape thinking about it, the fish (thoughts of a baby) won't let you.
Does that ring a bell?
This dream doesn't mean that you don't want to have a baby, only that you are very concerned about what will happen to you, the baby and your life when you do. Talking about it with your husband, other moms and your doctor are likely to make these dreams go away. However, as you've probably already heard, no amount of advise can ever fully prepare you for having a baby. Anxiety about it is natural. Your dream is an expression of those feelings. That's all. If you really want to have a baby, don't let the anxiety stop you. It's an amazing and enriching experience.
Good luck!

First of all, thank you so much Stella for your interpretation. It certainly is a very interesting point of view in things.
I'm not CONSCIOUSLY thinking too much about babies, but I do have to say that people really (especially family) do love to ask when are my husband and I going to start having children. I completely understand that curiosity gets the best of people and it's pretty innocent, but there are etiquette rules that advise that it is rude to ask a couple or a woman when she is thinking about having children. This happens to me quite often, at work and at gatherings, that maybe THAT is what is bothering me? Also, I do feel that my body is telling me that I'm at my prime to start bearing children but I am not ready yet and my husband is even MORE adamant about not having children as we don't feel sufficiently economically stable to start a family yet.
It's a really strange feeling, actually. At 27, I feel that being a mother would be the next natural step but, life is just too hard nowadays. Young adults like us don't have it easy in this economy. Life is crazy. Too hectic. Too fast-paced and it honestly terrifies me to bring a child into the picture...even though my motherly instinct would love one. Maybe this is why I had this dream. Deep down inside, in an ideal world, I would love to be a mother but, I'm scared because it would all just be 'too messy.'
However, I agree with you that I shouldn't let anxiety stop me because it's a normal, beautiful an enriching experience.
Thank you so much for your interpretation, Stella.
Many blessings and all the best,
Diana.

Thanks, Diana, for taking the time to provide some additional insight into your thoughts and feelings about having a baby, all of which align with the meaning of the dream.
Dreams expose the subconscious. They bridge the divide between the subconscious and the conscious. While we would all like to think that we are in touch with our innermost feelings and thoughts about ourselves and the world around us, unfortunately that isn't always the case, making dreams that much more important and relevant to us. Often, the more obtuse the symbology in a dream, the more out of touch or disconnected we are with the feelings about that area of our lives that generated it. Your third paragraph above is captured in the symbols and action of the dream. Although you weren't consciously aware how much the issue of babies is/was playing on your mind, your dream confirms it... probably triggered that day by some related event, such the innocent question, "So, when you are you two going to have kids?"
While you are consciously aware of the challenges and "messiness" of having a baby, this dream (as all dreams) exposes not only your feelings about it, but its prominence in your subconscious. Knowing that you can now chose how to reconcile those feelings with taking that big step... when you're ready.
It's all good!
God bless and Godspeed.
