I had a dream that my father had told me I had to die and he would revive me with a defib device, there was a reason but I have since forgotten. We were at his old work place (he's a retired police officer). Anyhow, I remember suffocating somehow and I could feel myself being taken by death. I could not move my body and I believe my eyes were closed at this time as well, however I could see my surroundings though it was all hazy and hear him saying not to worry as he was prepping the machine. I recall the machine shocking my body, though I felt nothing. I remember a distinct feeling of fear as the shocks failed to revive me, though soon after as I slipped further into death's grip I felt myself accept it and it became quite euphoric. I slowly woke up never seeing if he was ever able to revive me.

I have read other threads that most dreams of dying represent change in one's life and I can see how that can corrilate with my life because I am slowly regaining my faith in God after abandoning my church many years ago. I'm interested in what others can share regarding my dream. I am most confused as to why my father was the one to bring me to death with the promise to revive me. He and I get along fine, though I've always felt the need to impress him and have him openly express that he's proud of me. Perhaps that has something to do with it?

The setting of your dream provides another clue as to which part of your life the dream refers. As it is set at your father's workplace (a police station?), it may relate an issue at your work or in your career. Conversely, police/police stations in dreams are symbols of law and order, thus your sense that the dream is about your renewed faith may be apt.

Another thing to consider... while death in dreams often expresses feelings of change and transition in some area of your life, it can also reflect feelings separation... as a sense of separation in a relationship, perhaps with your father or maybe at work(?) As your father plays such an important role in your dream, it's worth considering.

Finally, fathers in dreams are not infrequently wisdom figures, but that is more often the case when the parent or grandparent is deceased. Still, your father's presence in your dream may reflect your sense of comfort, family, love and guidance through your "transformation" from your previous "haze" to the light of your new/renewed faith. Could there be any greater sense of revival than that for a believer?
