I was a passenger in an SUV being driven by Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City and current lawyer for Donald Trump. I was in the front passenger seat. The car was traveling on a
highway, and it was sunny and Giuliani was talkative. I was a journalist in the
dream. I asked Giuliani to provide me with one demonstrably factual fact that
would give credence to his claim that the government of Ukraine had interfered in the 2016 U.S. presidential election by supporting Hillary Clinton.
“I could give you one reason or I could give you a thousand reasons,”Giuliani said breezily, waving his hand toward me dismissively.

“I want just one reason,” I replied.

At that moment, I saw oncoming cars — we were traveling the wrong way on the highway. Cars were careening out of our lane. I looked urgently at Giuliani, who looked as serene as before.

“How many hours of sleep did you get last night?” I asked.

“It could have been one, it could have been 10. I don’t know and it doesn’t matter anyway,” Giuliani replied.

Just then, a sedan filled the space in front of the SUV. I braced for impact and thought “This is where I usually wake up in dreams – before the violence” but I stayed asleep and we traveled through the oncoming sedan as though it wasn’t there, like a ghost through a wall.

“Enough” I yelled at Giuliani. “Stop the car. I’m driving.”

He stopped the car in the middle of the highway and we switched positions without getting out of the car — his agility surprised me. He
squeezed past me, twisting and contorting his body within the tight space of
the front compartment of the SUV. He plopped into the passenger seat.

I pulled the car to the far left side of the road, still facing oncoming traffic. I exited at an onramp — still going against traffic — and
pulled onto the far left shoulder.

As I waited for space to open in the traffic so we could travel in the right direction again, Giuliani said to me: “OK. You’re driving now. Where are you taking us?”

    I woke up.
