Shadow

A shadow in a dream can reflect feelings that a second darker side of oneself is present in your waking life. This is a common symbol for those addicted to alcohol or drugs.

A scary shadowy or ominous dark figure in a dream may not be a dream at all but reflective of a sleep disorder, known as a confusional arousal. This occurs when caught between being asleep and waking. If it is recurring and always takes place in the bedroom or an amorphous dark space, sleeping with the light on will make it disappear or stop.
