boyfriend to the rescue

Thanks for sending me your dream. It is one of the most poetic I've read in a long while.

To me your dream indicates a bit of transition that is coming your way in life - and which you already are able to perceive. You are a young woman and soon enough will be "grown" - I think your viewing of the "beautiful people" outside the glass windows of the building you were in suggests this transition, just as the difference in clothing suggests a difference in age groups and social scenes. You are having a great time with the slacker/skater crowd, but your friends get together and "elect" you to go out and join this other world. You aren't necessarily leaving on your own accord - you are sort of being thrown out there. (Isn't that how time and life are? We are moved inexorably forward on their twin paths..) You were lonely and looked back for your friends, and for Chris, and in the reflection of the glass you see how sad you are to leave that world behind. This part of the dream, to me, is your own recognition of the passing of a portion of your life - a special stretch of time in your youth and young adulthood. The new world represented by the formal garden and beautiful people wearing beautiful clothes is lonely - you don't know anyone. I think you feel afraid at this point in the dream, not scared like you are going to be attacked, just nervous that you are alone and apart from your friends. But you find also that Chris too will make the transition. In fact, what I think the rest of your dream is about is sort of an intuition on your part that even though times will change - the clothes you wear will change, the people you will be with will change - that Life really is magic and full of mystery - indicated by the stars and the universe in its majesty - and that there always is a part of you that holds on to your youth. You and Chris run off together, through the party and out into a field, and Chris begins to shed his clothes down to his more casual garb - bright colors - happy colors - the color of sunlight - the color of youth and fun and innocence and friends and sharing. And you run through Nature and lay down beneath a beautiful canopy of stars and hold each other and wonder and dream upon the beauty and the mystery. Of this life, of this world, as we live in it and discover it.

It is my definite belief that healthy people have healthy access to all phases and portions of their lives - no barriers and resistances that prevent us from knowing and exploring our pasts. Today you hear and read a lot of articles and books and stories about "getting in touch with your inner child." Many people "lose" their childhood because they don't see the connections between it and adulthood. A lot of personality development occurs unconsciously. If you allow this to happen suddenly you arrive somewhere as a person and you have little idea of how you got there. A loss of continuity and connection in your life occurs. But if you pay attention, live consciously, and remember to always listen to the guidance of your own inner voice, (one voice of which appears in dreams) I think you will discover that this magic of life - this continuity - always is with you. We don't give up anything as we "grow up." We just grow and grow and grow. And we will do it for a long, long time.
