I think your hopes of having a relationship with Chris "died" a bit when you found out about his girlfriend. This is why you dreamed that Chris died - he is no longer available to you. Dreams usually use the symbolism of death to represent change and transition - and someone's "going away." I think you dreamed that he died in a car crash because you know that Chris' friend Lee died in a car crash only two months ago.
I am sorry to hear of Lee's death. It must be a sad time for everyone who knew him. And I know that you were sad to learn about Chris' girlfriend - but maybe you two will meet up another day.
