I agree that you don’t want to hurt your boyfriend’s feelings. Have you considered giving each other permission to date other people during the school year, under the condition that you call each other and talk if anything starts to get serious? The idea may be frightening at first, but dating is a very important part of learning what you want and don’t want in a relationship. If you and your boyfriend don’t give each other some trust and room to breathe—you may wind up resenting each other, because you want to do other things (date other people) but feel you can’t—because of your commitment.
If you were a Mrs. Anonymous worried about hurting her husband’s feelings, I’d tell you to stay put! But you’re not!
