newlywed

Hi Debbie -

It’s nice to be appreciated, isn’t it? :-)

Now that you have settled down and committed yourself to one man for the rest of your life (isn’t that what they say in those wedding vows?), do you think it is possible that you are experiencing some of that “missed opportunity” syndrome?

There was a funny cartoon on the cover of The New Yorker magazine recently that addressed this issue. A bride and groom are standing together at the alter, and as the groom looks up he sees all of his old girlfriends - flying away above him. When we marry we make a choice to build our lives with one other person - and it definitely means we give up other opportunities. But hopefully we choose well and it is a happy decision. In your case, the fact that the dream does not contain specific people you know professing their love for you, I think, is a good sign. It seems like your dream is representing these other opportunities generically. I would suspect that, as you and your husband continue to grow more comfortable with each other and with the changes in your relationship that marriage invariably brings, these dreams will subside. In the meantime, you may as well enjoy the attention!

Good luck!
